Cathedral Cave in Rock Sound, South Eleuthera, is also called Spider Rock Cave because of the spider webs all over the cave walls. Not many people report seeing spiders, although you can assume they are not small considering the impressive size of the webs. Giant tree roots weaved through the cracks of the cave ceiling add to the dramatic surroundings.

 

Cathedral Cave

You can book a guided tour to the caves or make your own way there. If going solo, head to Sherman’s Highway and look for the path opposite the Allen Chapel AME Church. Follow the trail past Boiling Hole, which is worth seeing on the way back. There are wooden steps with handrails down to the underground cavern, making it easy for anyone, including children and the elderly. You don’t need a torch as there is plenty of natural light inside the cave. Don’t forget your camera since the cave is an amazing experience you won’t want to forget.

This is a nice area for spelunking, hiking and picnics so after seeing the cave you can go exploring. First stop at Boiling Hole, a blue hole linked to the ocean by caves. An interesting geological site, it is also home to crabs and many bats that you can see flying around even in the daytime. In the nearby town of Rock Sound, you can find shopping, restaurants and historical sites like St Luke’s Anglican Church. So you can plan a visit to Cathedral Cave in Eleuthera and include plenty of stops along the way to make it an exciting day of sightseeing.
