The Loyalist Cottage in Harbour Island is the most photographed building on the island. This popular Harbour Island landmark is also the most visited. Built by a loyalist in 1797, this 18th-century home is 220 years old. During the Revolutionary War there were many subjects who remained loyal to the British crown and fled to Harbour Island in order to escape prosecution.

The turquoise and white cottage with its picket fences and gingerbread trim is a perfect example of Loyalist architecture. Many homes in Harbour Island were built by loyalists in the late 1700s and thanks to the Bahamas National Trust, these homes have been kept close to their original condition.
